Leah opened the shop at six thirty because fear hates a closed door. By seven, the first customers were already standing between shelves that looked fuller from a distance. A driver bought two sachets of coffee and promised to pay for the bread he had taken yesterday. A schoolgirl in a blue cardigan asked for a pencil and a small packet of biscuits, then looked at Leah with the embarrassed hope of a child who knew.
